用法
- 舍 has two readings: shě 'to give up/abandon' (the one here) and shè 'dwelling,' as in 宿舍 sùshè (dormitory).
- 舍不得 shěbude is extremely common in speech, 'can't bear to part with/do something': 舍不得花钱 (shěbude huā qián), reluctant to spend money; its opposite 舍得 shěde means 'willing to part with.', 舍得花钱 (shěde huā qián) willing to spend money.
- 依依不舍 yīyī-bùshě and 恋恋不舍 liànliàn-bùshě are near-synonymous set phrases for being reluctant to leave/say goodbye, both slightly literary.
- 锲而不舍 qiè'érbùshě (to persevere without giving up, literally 'carve without stopping') is a bookish idiom used to praise persistence.
