- 胡 as an adverb before a verb means 'recklessly/without basis', a very productive pattern: 胡说 húshuō (talk nonsense), 胡闹 húnào (make a scene/act up), 胡乱 húluàn (carelessly).
- 胡思乱想 húsī-luànxiǎng, to let one's imagination run wild, uses the same reckless sense.
