How it came to be

A sign that points at an idea, often a mark added to a simple drawing.
The oldest form is an open mouth with a short stroke inside: something sweet held in the mouth.
用法
- Sweet, and willing/content: 甘甜 (gāntián) sweet, 苦尽甘来 (kǔjìn-gānlái) after bitterness comes sweetness.
- 甘心 (gānxīn) means to be willing/resigned: 不甘心 (bù gānxīn) to be unwilling to accept it; 心甘情愿 (xīngān-qíngyuàn) means to do gladly of one's own free will. Also byname of Gansu (甘肃).
