How it came to be
The small seal form already puts the hand beside a stone: the hand gives the meaning, the stone the sound.
用法
- Two readings. tuò: to open up/expand: 开拓 (kāituò) to break new ground, 拓展 (tuòzhǎn) to expand, 拓宽 (tuòkuān) to widen.
- tà: to make a rubbing from an inscription: 拓片 (tàpiàn) a stone-inscription rubbing.
- 开拓进取 (kāituò-jìnqǔ) = pioneering and enterprising.
