How it came to be
The oldest form is a piece of jade with carved patterns; borrowed for the name of a country, it later got a mouth below.
用法
- "Week": 周末 (zhōumò) weekend, and a slightly more formal alternative to 星期 for weeks (上周 shàng zhōu last week).
- Also "all around/circumference": 周围 (zhōuwéi) surroundings, 四周 (sìzhōu) all sides. 周到 (zhōudào) = thoughtful/thorough.
