- Essentially only in 舞蹈 (wǔdǎo) = dance (the art form): 舞蹈演员 (wǔdǎo yǎnyuán) a dancer.
- 舞蹈 is dance as an art/discipline; 跳舞 (tiàowǔ) is the everyday verb 'to dance'. Use 舞蹈 for the noun, 跳舞 for the action.
- Literal 'to stamp the feet' survives in 手舞足蹈 (shǒuwǔ-zúdǎo) waving arms and stamping feet with joy.
