In the full form, black gives the meaning and the other part the sound: a dot was a small black mark.
用法
- A little, o'clock and dot / point: 一点儿 (yìdiǎnr) a bit, 三点 (sān diǎn) three o'clock, 有点儿累 (yǒudiǎnr lèi) a bit tired.
- Also to order food and to light: 点菜 (diǎncài) order dishes, 点头 (diǎntóu) nod. Note 一点儿 (some) vs 有点儿 (slightly, often for something negative).
